Enzymes are biological catalysts, typically proteins, that accelerate chemical reactions without being consumed in the process. In the textile industry, enzymes are widely used as eco-friendly processing agents. For example, amylases are applied in desizing to remove starch-based sizing materials from fabrics, while cellulases are used in bio-polishing and denim finishing to improve fabric softness and create a smooth surface. Catalases help decompose residual hydrogen peroxide after bleaching, reducing water consumption and processing time. Compared to traditional chemical treatments, enzymatic processes are generally more sustainable, as they require less energy and generate fewer harmful byproducts.

Beyond textiles, enzymes are also used in food processing, pharmaceuticals, detergents, and biotechnology. Their biodegradability and low environmental impact make them increasingly important in modern industrial practices focused on sustainability and green chemistry.

Used in textile desizing (pad-batch or exhaust) at 55–65°C, pH 6–7. It offers high desizing rate, low strength loss, soft handfeel, and no redeposition. The low-pH wastewater is biodegradable, meeting clean production requirements.
