It strongly hydrolyzes starch, pectin, and other sizing agents into soluble sugars (dextrins, oligosaccharides, maltose, glucose). It does not damage fabric weight or strength.

It is used in textile desizing (cotton, denim, blends) via pad-batch (2–4 g/L, 55–65°C, 2–4 hours) or exhaust (0.2–0.4% o.w.f., pH 5.0–8.0, 15–30 minutes). Also used in brewing, alcohol, beer, starch sugar, MSG, biopharmaceuticals, and organic acid fermentation. After desizing, wash at 65–75°C.
